Opened November 1974

This is one of the most famous and most visited reserve in Kenya. It offers breathtaking views (seen in the film ”Out of Africa”).

In addition to this, an impressive feature is the annual migration of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle from the plains of the Serengeti.

Consequently, they cross the Tanzanian border and rivers to reach the Mara’s lush grassland from late June, hunted by the predators.

The dramatic rive crossings are a reality for tourists visiting in July-August.

4 Days Masai Mara Safari


Day 1: Nairobi -Masai Mara

Depart after breakfast around 6:30 am and drive south via Narok to the Mara reserve, on the way you will witness some of the spectacular views the landscape has to offer. You will have a brief stop at the Great Rift Valley, then proceed with your journey and in Narok. Then from here, you will head straight to Masai Mara arriving in good time for lunch. Thereafter delve into a brief afternoon game drive.  Wherever you go in the Mara you will see a frequent amount of wildlife such as Masai giraffe, bat eared foxes, grey jackals, spotted hyena, topis, impala, hartebeests, wildebeest. Cheetahs and leopards are harder to spot.

Day 2: Masai Mara

The Masai Mara has its reason to boast about the numbers that come to visit. It is due to the popularity accorded that it has become the resident shooting destination for the popular documentary “THE BIG CAT DIARY”. On this day you will do morning and afternoon game drives with a break in the mid-morning OR you can choose to go for a full day game drive with picnic lunches.  Also optional is a balloon safari which can be booked the previous day as it takes place early in the morning with champagne breakfast being served after landing (optional and at an extra own cost). Dinner and overnight at lodge/camp of your choice.

Day 3: Masai Mara

Early morning game drive at 0700hours, later we break for breakfast and on this day you will delve into morning and afternoon game drives with a break for lunch to experience the vast savannah, full of plains and wildlife. The Mara is well known for its annual migration which occurs in the months of August-September. This is not the only attraction as there are other animals mainly the big cats featured in the TV series. Later drive back to the camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Mara-Nairobi

Depart Mara after your late breakfast and check-out to head to Nairobi arriving in the late afternoon. Drop off at your place of pick up as you say goodbye to your guide.
